Mitzvah 13!
Just 13 hours
during the year.

Perfect for b'nai mitzvah or other community service requirements. Mitzvah 13 will place pre-teen and teen volunteers (ages 11-15) at Sholom Home West to participate in a variety of activities. Many residents may not have family or other visitors to socialize with, leaving them feeling lonely and isolated. Young volunteers will perform a mitzvah as they acquire skills and learn life lessons about helping others.

13 HOURS OF COMMITMENT A YEAR
Volunteers will make a one year commitment including spending one hour a month volunteering, plus attending a one hour training session.

To volunteer or for more information, email  Elena Cooperman, Coordinator of Outreach Programs, or call her at 952-542-4855.

Passover Hag Sameach

Help support the third annual JFCS Hag Sameach (Happy Holidays) Adopt a Family for Passover program.  Individuals and families in need receive a gift bag of ritual Passover foods and other items needed to celebrate the holiday. Often this is a family's only way to celebrate the rich traditions of Passover.

Last year over 300 families were served by the program.

You can support this wonderful program by making a "chai" or $18 donation to JFCS.

A Big Opportunity!
Jewish Big Brother/Big Sister Program

There are kids in our community that need a friend, a confident, a mentor - someone to show them how good life can be.  When you become a Big Brother or Sister you'll discover that Bigs and Littles have fun together and create memories that last a lifetime.

Kids who have a "Big" are:

  • Big Brothers make a world of difference in their little brothers52% less likely to skip school
  • 46% less likely to begin using illegal drugs
  • More likely to get along with their families and peers
