JFCS serves ‘high tea’ to Deikel Transportation volunteers

What do you do for an amazing group of volunteers who show up every week to support our clients? You treat them to “high tea” to celebrate all they do!

That’s exactly what the JFCS Senior Services staff did on Nov. 2, to show their appreciation for our awesome Deikel Transportation volunteers. Each week, this amazing group reports for duty, ready to assist clients with their transportation requests from 9 a.m. until noon, Monday through Friday. Each one claims their day: Sandy B (Monday), Sandy G (Tuesday), Arnie (Wednesday), Raleigh (Thursday) and Jay (Friday). And they are always standing by with a smile to support JFCS staff with projects along the way.

These volunteers are unique in our ever-changing world of volunteering where one-off, short-term and virtual opportunities are the norm. They give back unselfishly week after week, year after year, and are truly the heart of what our community is all about. Each of them has been a committed JFCS volunteer for many years. And of course, they talk about not how much they give, but how much they get back in return.

Deikel Transportation provides approximately 350 rides per month and takes roughly
60-70 calls per week, arranging rides for our clients from our volunteer and staff drivers. We could not serve our clients without this incredible group of dedicated volunteers!
