  VOCATIONAL REHABILITATION AND SUPPORTED EMPLOYMENT

What is it? Who is it for?

The vocational rehabilitation and supported employment program is for people with disabilities who need intensive support, counseling and training in order to obtain, maintain and advance in competitive employment.

Referrals to JFCS for services are made by counselors of State Rehabilitation Services, Hennepin County Family and Adult Services or by a professional from other agencies.

The Vocational Rehabilitation Program lends additional scope and substance to the agency’s commitment to inclusion and accessibility.

Services may be funded in full or in part through the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.

Program Eligibility Criteria Potential program participants must meet the following criteria in order to qualify for services:
  • Be 18 years of age or older
  • Have a disability that makes it difficult to obtain and maintain employment
  • Have a need for intensive support in order to remove barriers to competitive employment
  • Demonstrate the desire and potential to benefit from services available
  • Manage essential activities of daily living that are commonly required within a work place environment
PROGRAM SERVICES
The JFCS vocational rehabilitation and supported employment program provides the following services that promote employment success, personal satisfaction and career advancement. These services are provided based on individual needs at our offices or in community-based settings:

Vocational Evaluation
– includes career testing, counseling, and assessment of strengths, interests and abilities, as well as areas that may require training, support or accommodations.

Job Placement – identifies appropriate employment opportunities which match job demands with participant needs and promote natural supports with employer partners.

Employee Development
– assists participants to develop performance and functional capacities, skills, attitudes and positive work behaviors.

Job Site Training/Job Supports
– provides short- or long-term support for individuals requiring assistance with changes in the workplace, career advancement and accommodation needs.
