Greetings!

This month, we celebrate the Jewish holiday of Shavuot, a time traditionally referred to as the "giving" of the Torah.

Have you ever wondered why it is the "giving" rather than the "receiving" of the Torah? The "giving" of the Torah happened only once on Mount Sinai, while the "receiving" of the Torah can happen each and every day. Think of it this way, your child will be "given" a PJ book this month, but he or she will "receive" the gift of reading and Judaism each time a PJ Library book is opened.

Happy reading,

Debbie Wolfe,

PJ Library Coordinator

It's Challah Time!

A yummy time was had by all

It's Challah TimeLast week 38 happy preschoolers attended "It's Challah Time!" sponsored by PJ Library and the Amos & Celia Heilicher Minneapolis Jewish Day School.

The children prepared and braided challah to bake at home, painted challah covers, decorated kipot, read "It's Challah Time" and sang Shabbat songs!

What a fun morning! Click here to see more pictures of the event!

There's lots more PJ Library fun to come!

Shavuot Resources & Activities

Fun Shavuot Activities
Shavuot has two traditions that speak to young children: staying up all night "studying" and eating dairy foods. On May 26, why not enjoy those traditions as a family? Throw an ice cream (or Tofutti) pajama party and enjoy a few of these family activities!
